I know it goes against what others have said, but I have had great luck using Gunk on the motor. Stand by with water and rags. A pressure washer has worked well and I have even done this at a car wash several times. I spray the Gunk on liberally, let it soak for just a couple minutes and then spray it off, keeping it away from openings that will lead to the engine valley as much as possible. I wipe the motor down quickly and start it right away. Never had a problem. You might check the drain, a little tube by the lower bellhousing area, blow air, or run a coat hanger up through it to make sure it's clear. (Do this anyway)
