Don't use cheap sandpaper, I used Norton first, Trust Me I learned the hard way while trying this.

I wet sanded my black 95 about 2 weeks ago with 2500 Meguiar's paper.

It seamed to have a fair amount of clear, I didn't sand through anywhere and I sanded Most of the orange peel out.

Good luck

Ok thanks! I was just curious. Got dinged 2 points in a big show Saturday for "swirl marks" which I know I have some. (micro scratches) I'm on a detailing forum and they were asking if it was clear coated or not. I had no idea..lol
Gonna clean it up with some compound....

This is what you need if you're having bad swirl marks.

Get some 3M Perfect-It
Ultrafine Machine Polish
Follow the instructions, keep it wet.

I was also tired of 20 years of swirl marks so I had the paint professorially "conditioned". Two guys spent an entire day polishing it (no sandpaper). Improvement was amazing. Many who have seen my 20 year old paint were very impressed. Here is the thread on it. http://www.zr1.net/forum/showthread.php?t=24810 I am very glad I had it done. Yes your paint has clear coat and BTW the detailers commented before they started that the older Corvettes like ours had quite hard paint, especially compared to the current water based paints. -Bob
