Robert,

All at one works 4 me too. But, whatever you two decide is good. Let us know what we can do to help!

I have a slight preference for all days at Fontana, but that's a selfish request from me because we don't plan to go all the way to BG this year. So, like Paul, we'll be fine (and will have fun) with whatever plan you decide. Thanks for organizing this.

For Steve, Doug, Robert, Paul, Russ + others,

I've worked out several tentative routes (I've driven virtually all of the roads in the region but not necessarily on the exact routes that I'm looking at for MR4. I plan to have a variety of routes to pick from including some with the most seat time and some with plenty of "sight-seeing & local stops" ... i.e. something for everyone.

All the routes I've worked on presume Fontana as home base. It is definitely possible to depart Fontana on Wed AM, run the Dragon south to north, and make it to BG by early afternoon. It's also possible to add the Devil's Triangle or other scenic routes and still make BG in time for pizza. Looks like a win-win as far as I'm concerned.

Robert, we need to go ahead and block rooms starting Sunday (Mother's Day) and checking out on Wed AM. FWIW, many participants from last year indicated they really liked the idea of staying at Fontana and since it's very centrally located to all the "good" roads, it seems like the logical thing to do. Depending on how many participants we have we can either opt for a buffet dinner on Tue nite (similar to last year) or do something different. Lots of options.

I would say to subscribe to this thread but I think notifications are not working at the moment, so please check this thread frequently for updates and definitely let us know of your interest, especially if you are definitely planning on attending MR4.

George, I was going to send you and Hutch an Email on Monday. I contacted Beth with Fontana Dam a week ago, With Hutch permission, I am going to create one block of rooms as we will get a better price.

sounds good ... definitely want Hutch in the loop & I'm sure he will be OK with the plan. Past 3 weeks have been rough on the calendar ... hope to get back on track after tomorrow. Planning on going up to the mountains in a couple of weeks. Was going next week but snow is expected, just enough to make the curvy roads more challenging than I wish. Will keep you posted.

George

roads are probably a little slick about now ... temps in the teens ... white stuff in the forecast ... trying to decide whether to put chains on the Z (just kidding).

Working on routes now ... should be posting updated info in a couple of days.

MR4 UPDATE - Please Read !!!
Tentative Itinerary
Sun May 8 - 8:00 pm Driver's Meeting in Gatlinburg
Mon May 9 - Day 1 run (choose a route)
Tue May 10 - Day 2 run (choose a route)
Wed May 11 - Day 3 (caravan to BG for pizza)

Driver's Meeting
We will go over final details, answer questions, suggest routes for you to choose, etc. etc. Most (probably all) of the MR4 info will be emailed to each participant at least a week prior to the Driver's Meeting

Tentative Routes
MR4 participants will have a greater choice of routes this year including Wayah Rd that is "new" to the MR routes. Route choices range from 137 miles (3:29 driving time) to 288 miles (7:12). The shorter routes have more scenic stops, plenty of time for lunch, and will be fairly relaxed in nature. A couple of longer routes are available especially for the "iron butts" ... no more complaining about not having enough seat time. Look at all the routes HERE. Contact me with suggestions or additional requests.

Accommodations
The MR4 hotel is the Park Vista in Gatlinburg

Participants
Now's the time to sign up. Let us know you're going.

Contact Info
If you participated in a previous Mountain Run and your email, cell ph#, car info, etc. are unchanged, we should have your contact info on file. If not, please PM or email me the following:
Name
Driving Solo or w/Navigator
Forum Name
Address
City State Zip
Cell Ph
Email Address
Car Info (year/color)

Questions
Post any questions you might have in this thread ... or send me a PM ... or email me by clicking HERE and then clicking the Email box. Remember that you can check out photos & more from previous Mountain Runs by visiting my website (link in my signature below).

MR1 had the original Magnificent 7 ZR-1's; MR2 had 15 cars; MR3 had 36 cars; here's hoping we have a big turnout for MR4. If you've never made the Mountain Run, now's your chance ... it will be an experience you will never forget and most likely you'll want to repeat.
