Default Re: Headers

Just going to headers on an LT5, which, also, usually eliminates the cats, is good for about 25-hp.

That said, based on what's listed for your location, in New York, which often follows what we do here in California as far as exhaust emissions regulation, I'd check to make sure a car with headers and no cats can get though any exhaust emissions test required to register the car in New York State.

Most of the popular and affordable aftermarket exhausts on the market for ZR-1s (i.e.: Corsa, Flowmaster, etc) were developed and tested on cars with stock manifolds and cats. When you remove the cat,s you remove the exhaust noise reduction you get with them so, an aftermarket system which should be relatively quiet on an engine with manifolds and cats will get noticeably louder when the cats are removed and replaced by headers.

That said, if you are used to a C3 with headers and 40-series Flowmasters, then you will not find the loudness of any of the popular aftermarket systems objectionable, even if you go to headers because Flowmaster 40s with headers make a freakin' loud exhaust. I have a 71 with headers and Flowmaster 50 Deltas and I think it's pretty loud. I can't imagine my 71 with 40-series mufflers.

Yeah the 40 series flowmasters are quite loud, but it just fits
Right with the old school look of the stingray...

Thanks for the info....I'm leaning toward OBX for the full system.

Depending on what your looking for here's an example of an FBI CUSTOM EXHAUST using Watson headers, Xpipe, no cats, Dynomax UltraFlow w NPP exhaust controllers. 3" pipes.
