The reason I asked was if you're going to have to run cats over there then will it matter if your mufflers flow more than them. I'm running random technology 3 inch in and out cats.
They're supposed to flow 600 cfm. So whether my mufflers flow 2000 cfm or 1000 cfm they shouldn't hurt performance since they both flow more then the cats. If you're going to end up in the same boat as me, and have to run cats, maybe the dynomax vt's would be a viable option. Just thinking out loud.

Once I pass the emissions to bring the car into the country as an import, I'm done and don't have to have cats after that. I don't have cats for my headers either. To pass the standard testing after the initial importing is easy and no issue with that but they do look for cats. My initial safety check as it would be in US is good for 3 years and then I might have to put cats back on to pass just the visual and safety check. The strict initial test by the government seems to just be a money maker at $2500 a pop for every single new or used car that enters the country. Just think that every car has to go through this if not from Japan. That is a lot of greenbacks. It is very complicated and difficult to explain.

But, you're probably right and not sure what flow is needed where it won't matter how much more you have. For all we know, the amount from the VTs are enough for a 350 motor and like you said if there is a choke point before the mufflers it should not matter so good point. The problem with the VTs according to Dynomax catalog is there is no single in with dual out configuration and the single in and single out is offset for the inlet side so not sure how to make that work with existing system having a center inlet if trying direct replacement.

Why do I always have to be different? Well, instead of going with the Dynomax Ultra Flo 17228 with dual tips, I went with Dynomax 17220 ($79.90 with free shipping from Amazon.com) Ultra Flo 3" in/out" single tip and using Pypes Challenger tips ($58/pair due to flaw with no slot for clamp on and I want to weld it on anyway) for a different look. The flow is a little different since no split inside the muffler, but my split will be in the tips so curious to see the difference in sound.

17228 flow is 1900 SCFM, Loss free HP 864 (single)/1728 (dual) and the 17220 is 1800 SCFM, Loss free HP 818 (single)/1636 (dual)

Muffler next to tip

3" straight through

Tip from the outlet view

Tip from the inlet view

Anyway, I can't wait to install these and I will post more photos and video with sound clip, then to dyno tune once headers and xpipe back on at the same time.

Right now still doing all the fine tuning (data logging and bin files back and forth by email) to try emissions testing again with the stock crap on. I can't wait to have the B&B gen 3s chopped off and put these babies on.

I like the look. Is the muffler stainless or steel shell?

Thanks Dom! I'll be sure to post and give feedback.

Brett,
According to Dynomax the Ultra Flo welded are:

Stainless steel construction for lifelong protection.
100-percent Welded design for maximum durability.
Dyno proven to flow up to 2,000 SCFM and support up to 2,000 horsepower.
Straight-through design ensures unrestricted exhaust flow and reduces back pressure.
CRF Technology absorbs unwanted interior resonance while maintaining a deep performance tone.

I could not find what kind of stainless, but I thought I saw somewhere else 409 stainless. I like these welded muffler much better than the seamed style. After hearing Dom's and all the videos on You Tube, I personally do agree that Ultra Flos sound the best and allow for the most HP based on folks that have tested them or compared with others.

Craig, I had the 17220 on my 89.. that car had a modded 350 with Miniram, cam headers etc

In this clip this was the exhaust:

1.75" headers
3" Magnaflow cats
3" Resonator with internal X ( custom Bassani piece)
pair of 17220s
LT1 modded tips

This clip is 10 meg, might want to right click, save as

You can also hear the Trans rattle in the longer video

Thanks Jeff. That sounds great and it looks like it was a nice car too.

Not sure how different the LT5 w/SGC Stage I cams will sound with 2.00" SW headers, no cats, SW x-pipe, pair of 17220s and Pypes tips. I hope the it eliminates or reduces drone.......ha, ha! Like Pete said, I don't want no old geezer exhaust and this should help keep me awake as well as no need for stereo (how much weight can I save by pulling all of that out? just kidding, but I never turn on my stereo anyway).
