sorry I took this long to get back to you!

Progressive as in the worse the contacts erode or pit the higher the resistance across the contacts, the more power it robs from the circuit and the less power is delivered to the starter. However! I do not think this applies to the 93 & up cars, as I think the GM engineers changed the circuit....I think, but am not sure. I know on a 90 the entire starting amp draw goes thru the CSS before it gets to the starter.
