I started to do some research and quickly realized it was time to forget about the C3
I then made a deal with the owner to hang on to the car for me to come and look, (nearly 500 miles away)
Well to cut a long story short, I went to look, bought it, and drove it home!!!!!!

It is a Black on black 1990 number 867, with nearly 70k miles on it.
It has got a set of headers fitted, DRM coil over suspension, but for the rest I believe it is stock.
There are quite a few small things to be repaired but that is part of why I call it my "Toy" because I enjoy slowly getting it all sorted out, keeps me out of mischief!!!
Some of the things that need repairing are:

Vacuum pump
O2 sensors
Parking brake lever
Oil leak on the gearbox back seal
PCV system
FX3 system was removed but most of the part are there.
So as you can see nothing really major.

At the moment Im aware of 2 other ZR1's in the country but also only from photo's, one of which is really in stunning condition.

Wow that's great! The previous owner changed the front bumper to a 1991, all the moldings replaced and 96 front fender wells done too.

I have coil over suspension too and you will enjoy it much more by reactivating FX3..... What a difference!

Do you ever come to the US? If you do, let us know! (a good friend is from SA and working in Dubai. I've been trying to get him to buy a ZR-1 for years)

Love to hear your experiences with your car in SA! What do people say when you open the hood? Are there areas you can really drive your car "all out"?

Thanks for posting up!!! Very cool!

Send me your email address mate!

Unfortunately I dont see me coming to the US in the near future but I did send you my e mail.
At the moment the car is not mobile as Im busy fixing the items I have mentioned above, but the reaction of my friends when I open the hood is good to see!!!! What *&%##* motor is this??? never seen one like it!!!
My only problem with the repair is that on average it takes 3 weeks for something to get here from the US, so the progress is quite slow, but who actually cares The main thing is so far I have managed to get everything I need.
Im hoping to have it on its wheels again in a few weeks as it is also hectic at work.
And then to see if the SMILY switch works again!!!!
There are some area's here where I could give it a good push but my best option is a little light aircraft runway nearby.
Will let you know how things progress.
