Default Need Help Diagnosing This Sound

Looking for help diagnosing the sound heard in the video.

The video is of me moving the car back and forth in my garage next to the rear wheel on the driver side. 1992.

At this point the car is sidelined and I don't feel it's safe to drive.

Any help would be appreciated!

John

On mine the mount for the brake hose had gotten bent slightly, causing the hose to touch the wheel. At least it's easy to check.

I'm not an expert at this, but my first thought was a u-joint binding.
I'd get the rear up in the air, remove the tires and see if you can duplicate the sound turning the assembly by hand.
Could be numerous things, but I think with the tires off you should be able to track it down.
Let us know what you find out.

I'll do the two checks above.

Strangely enough, when I put a different set of rims/tires on, the sound & feeling isn't as pronounced. Still there, just not as bad.

Thanks!

Put it on a lift in neutral and manually rotate the tire. Mark the tire at 12 o’clock when you hear the noise. It might be in more than one spot on the rotation. Once the marked spots can duplicate the noise, use a stethoscope to pinpoint the source of the noise from the rim to the differential. Good luck. [emoji481]

So, I got the car up on stands this morning, ready to manually turn the wheel and see what was going on. The first thing I notice is that the driver rear wheel is loose! OMG, like really loose I could rock it back and forth and 4 lugs came off by hand.

Took the wheel off and turned by hand...no noise. So, I guess the sound was due to the loose wheel?

I'm feeling very lucky! I guess when I swapped the wheels last time I must have missed tightening these lugs down (I was in a bit of a hurry). Oh man.

Thanks all for the feeback

John
