Default Installing HID Driving Lights

Alright ordered my kit from the Labor Day special. Ordered with the 5000k bulbs. Package arrived all nice and neatly packed. Nothing was broken or damaged while in transit.

First things, instructions are a little vague. There are several issues with that. The year break down is not the same 84 - 89 then 90 and then following with 91-96. My install is on a 90 ZR-1. So it has the last year of the old front bumper and the new rad stack.

1) Remove the airbox assembly. This gives you all the room in the world to work. Otherwise the bulb insertion is a tedious task.

2) Start by twisting the bulb holder and pulling the assembly straight back and at the end you will probably need to make it take a slight angle to get it all the way out.

3) You will then need to separate the original wire harness and connector off of the bulb holder.

Shot of the bulb holder and the new HID light.

4) Take your new bulb and string the wires through and make sure the guide slots are going into the bulb assembly. You can see the guides where the bulb is tilted back. Make sure the bulb then seats properly and locks into place on the side locking tabs.

5) You then need to slide the wires through the wire retention slots for the outer seal to fit correctly.

6) New HID bulb in place.

7) Now this is where I have a problem with the kit. The supplied HID energizer has exposed terminal pins, the instructions tell you to place the exposed pins into the factor connection and then just wrap the wires.

8) So I cracked open my electrical kit and got some two wire weather pack connectors. I feel this is a better solution than leaving the bare connectors exposed to the elements that come off the hood and headlight openings.

9) Driver side installed and wires run under the frame rail. I have not decided where to mount the energizer module.

Very nice!

The thing you did to improve on the kit by adding your own connector is exactly the type of thing I do. I would have done the same thing. If I'm gonna take the time to install something on my car, I want it done cleanly, neatly & properly. Not half-assed like a lot of people do.

Oh, by the way, where do you get those sealed connectors? They look very nice, just like factory connectors. Would be nice to have those on hand.

You gotta be kidding me! Those "fog" lights are now brighter than the darn head lights!

I never realized just how much better the newer lighting systems are until I drove my 08 cobalt at night and then got back in my Z.....geeeze what a difference!

Thanks Jeff for the step by step. This maybe something I try to do.....once I fix my 42 that is.

Great Post Jeff. Thanks for taking the time to do this for us.

Looks like a worthwhile upgrade to our cars.
