INTERSPORT TEAM BACK TO FULL STRENGTH AT MOSPORT; FIELD OPTIMISTIC CAR WILL BE FAST

BRASELTON, GA - Jon Field wants to be part of the "dogfight," and he feels that he and co-driver Duncan Dayton will be back in the thick of the action this weekend when the American Le Mans Series makes its annual visit to Canada's Mosport International Raceway for the Toronto Grand Prix of Mosport.

Intersport Racing will be back to full strength this weekend with the team's Lola B160-Judd Prototype returning to action after missing the past two ALMS events due to a cracked chassis.

"I think we'll be right up there with them running at the front," said Field, team owner/driver. "We want to be in that dogfight for the overall win."

The team's LMP1 entry had not performed as well as normal in the races leading up to the Infineon Grand Prix of Sonoma, held July 18 at Sonoma, Calif. Field had been on the track at Infineon Raceway for practice and was sitting in the car on pit road when the chassis cracked.

"We thought that maybe the chassis had been going soft," said Field. "The setups weren't working on the car in the three or four races before that and it had been miserable to drive. We couldn't figure out why, but then we found out at Sonoma.

"It wasn't that big of a deal, but luckily it happened in the pits and not on the track," he said.

Field said that several of the Intersport team members left Sonoma and returned to the team's Dublin, Ohio, shop to work on the car. The car was stripped down and then a local composite company kept the chassis for a week and repaired it. The team got the chassis back last Tuesday and has been putting the race car back together since.

"It's like a new chassis," said Field. "We're going to test it at Mosport on Tuesday and then be ready for the race this weekend."

While he couldn't drive his normal LMP1 class car the past two races, Field didn't sit on the sidelines. Instead, he was added as a third driver with his son, Clint, and Robin Liddell in the team's LMP2-class Lola B2K/40-Judd and helped drive to class victories at both Sonoma and in the most recent race in Portland, Ore. The wins solidified Field's position as the all-time ALMS leader in LMP2 class wins with eight. He was the 2002 champion of the class.

The Toronto Grand Prix of Mosport will get the green flag at 12 noon (Eastern) on Sunday, August 8. Official practice and qualifying will be held on Saturday, August 7, along with an open-paddock autograph session featuring all ALMS drivers. CBS Sports will have live television coverage of the event from 2-4 (Eastern), while the race will also be televised live in Europe by MotorsTV beginning at 18:00 (UK time).
