Default Lots of pics from 3-day Corvette Run

This past weekend, I went on a Corvette run with a bunch of C5/C6 people that had a 3-day trip planned in the mountains near where I live. Pete (PLRX on the 'other' forum) told me about it, so I figured it would be a great first run for my Z. Evan (my buddy with the red '92 ZR-1 that I posted about here, which is still in progress) also came along on Sunday with his red '85 GS80 Corvette (it doesn't have the original engine, but does have a built engine). I went with them for all three days.

Had a really awesome time, weather was perfect. My Z ran great the whole time, didn't have any issues.

I've re-posted here what I posted over at the other forum. I'll post more pics of my ZR-1 in the 'Members Rides' section.

Day 1, Oct. 8 - Tollhouse road to Shaver Lake

On the way to Shaver Lake, before the Tollhouse Grade.

Uh oh, trouble already! Vince (his car is the red C5 with the hood up that everyone is standing around) hit a bump or something and heard a 'clunk' and it appeared that his right front coil over shock was broken at the top. His car was still drivable though, so we continued on up to Shaver. Turned out later after further inspection that the shock wasn't actually broken, the top part had just come unscrewed somehow; so it was able to be put back together.

Me, Pete and Bill (his car is the black convertible C6) decided we wanted to go see the lake before joining the rest of the group for dinner at a place there in Shaver.

The level of the lake is very low right now, much lower than I have ever seen it before and I have been coming to this lake since I was a kid. The lake has been drained because of maintenance work being done to the dam.

Day 2, Oct. 9 - Kings Canyon/Sequoia National Park: Grant Grove Visitor Center, General Grant Tree, Boyden Cave, Zumwalt Meadows & Grizzly Falls

At the hotel, ready to start another day of fun!

At the park entrance.

On the way to the Grant Grove Visitor Center.

At the General Grant tree area.

It is hard to appreciate just how massive these Giant Sequoia trees are until you are standing at the base of one looking up.

The General Grant tree. It is the world's widest known sequoia - 40 feet in diameter at ground level. It is 1,700 years old (estimated) and 268 feet tall.

Gamlin Cabin.

Walkway just after Gamlin Cabin.

A fallen giant sequoia with a hollow center you can walk through.

Me and Pete were the last to leave the General Grant tree area. As I was about to leave, I noticed a crowd of people around Pete's car and there was a woman sitting in his car. Pete later said that the tour guide of that group (I think they were from France? Not sure.) thanked him and said that woman had terminal cancer and would not survive much longer.

On the way to the Kings Canyon Lodge for a lunch break.

At the Kings Canyon Lodge.

An apple tree at the lodge with a TON of apples growing on it!

At the next stop, Boyden Cave for the cave tour.

View of the parking area from half-way up the trail to the cave.

At the cave entrance.

This is where the tour would normally finish (beneath the entrance), but we couldn't on our tour because that area had water running through it at the time. So we went back out the way we came.

The formations in the cave were very impressive! This one is called "the upside-down city".

This one is called "the wedding cake". According to the guide, it took around 40,000 years to form!

More cave formations.

The next few pictures were taken in the Zumwalt Meadows area, which was our next stop after Boyden Cave. Very beautiful area!

On the way back to the cars, we came across 3 deer; 1 doe and 2 bucks. They seemed fairly tame, we were only maybe 50-60 feet from them; they looked at us, but continued going about their business.

Photo-op of the 'Vettes.

Next, we went to see the General Sherman tree. This tree is famous for being the biggest tree on Earth by volume. It is 275 feet tall and estimated to be 2,200 years old.
