Default Recommended fluids

On this subject in the web site, Mobile 1 is not mentioned. Was this on purpose or is Mobile 1 no longer a recommended oil for our motors?

Certain Mobil 1 is fine--here is Marc Haibeck's article on oil:

Nice article. Went to the Amsoil site to price the recommended product. Did a search for Amsoil AMO 10W-40 as mentioned in the article as the preferred oil and did not get any results. ?????

I agree with Amsoil 100%

10w 40 is the best for our cars.

Google the Web and most of the articles on Amsoil are written by testers paid by Amsoil, or claiming ridiculous tests that are not real world.

Mobil tests with Taxi Cabs, real life situations. I've personally seen motors go 400,000 miles on Mobil 1.

I don't believe in Boutique oils or the hype or the multi-level marketing that goes along with Amsoil. Notice you can't buy it off the shelf?

Also, remind me again, of all the cars that Amsoil is factory fill for??

Mobil is factory fill for Corvette, Porsche, Mercedes, Aston Martin, Bentley, Lexus LFA, McLaren, Nissan GTR

I have some motors that are $100,000 marine engines. They run on Shell Rotella- not a boutique oil. Shell Rotella is Awesome oil for the $$$. Trust me I'd run the Amsoil if it were better.

I know some of the best diesel mechanics in a few cities and none of them run Amsoil. These are mega yachts, tugboats ($6-15 Million) trust me, the owners, corporations would pay for the Amsoil if it were better as downtime costs a ton of $$ on the water.

Notice those who pitch Amsoil are usually Amsoil Dealers.

They sell Shell Rotella & Mobil 1 High Mileage at Walmart. I run the Mobil 1 High Mileage in my Z.

An 9 quart oil change for Amsoil is over $100 with shipping. Notice 3 quarts stay in filter. I often get two (2) 5 Gallon jugs of Mobil 1 for $50.00. That leaves me with an extra quart left over.

I change my oil by season to make sure all 12 quarts are clean and not old even though my cars see low mileage. I use the extra quarts in my other Corvettes.

If you buy the Amsoil propaganda, MLM techniques and bogus tests then I guess its worth 2X the cost right?

FYI, I spend a small fortune in oil testing every year so I'm not just making off the cuff remarks.

Oh and also tell me why Amsoil is not the factory fill for Corvette, Porsche, Mercedes, Aston Martin, Bentley, Lexus LFA, McLaren, Nissan GTR, Daytona 500? After all, the online marketing material says its Amazing!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong but the additive ZDDP is what we are looking for in an oil for older motors. Can you link some information on this in other oils? From what I've seen Amsoil has one of the best in this area.

I'm not trying pick a fight. Personally for the LT-5, I think its overstated.

The Mobil 1 is 1100 PPM Zinc which is fine for the LT-5. Marc agrees with it.

You can mix ZDDP in but you need to make sure its done correctly as it can have a host of its own problems in regards to the oil makeup and ruining the cats (if you are running any)

I've had numerous talks with Aaron Scott and Marc, both of which have done work to my car. The Mobil HM is fine.

If you want to pay 2X, go for it. I don't do enough mileage to worry about it either way. I'd rather do more frequent oil changes. Every Corvette I have owned, I dump at about 150,000 miles. It runs like a clock, has very little wear and is meticulously clean on the inside of it. I'll stick with Mobil as its proven ( to me, major car manufacturers, nascar race teams)

The way that Amsoil is marketed is a turn off in and of itself. Where are the real life tests?

Police Car Fleets, Taxi Cab Fleets? Amsoil has none of that. Why not have Amsoil go head to head and a 3rd party shows the results?

If you feel warm and fuzzy with the Amsoil than pay 2X price and run it.

I'd still run the Mobil 1 if it were the same price as Amsoil.

I'd rather do more Mobil 1 changes and get my oil cooler completely clean too.

Bottom line is engines are going 200,000 on dino oil and 500,000 on any good synthetic. And I don't know anybody who changes the oil at 25,000 miles like Amsoil says. So I guess its all in how you define better. I've not seen tests by any independent company that shows Amsoil is better. All the Big $$$ diesels in marine and Trucks mostly run Rotella. That should tell you something as a Diesel Cab is probably 70-100K and they last about 1 million miles.

Wht kind of spring pressures are run on the LT5? Certainly much less than any other flat tappet PUSHROD CHev engine as they see MUCH higher loading at the cam/lifter interface.
. Once the cam/lifter are broken in together, most of that risk is mitigated.
I run a pushrod flat tappet 283 Chev and have done fine with Shell Rotella conventional.

Were the factory fill Mobil 1 sports cars a full synthetic or the high percentage synthetic?

I remember for years Mobil 1 at the store wasnt 100% synthetic. IIRC 90+% sythetic blend.
