Re: Vaccum solenoid switch
AC Delco 214-358. Amazon or Rock Auto. I am waiting on one from Amazon right now to install this weekend. You do have to cut a spline out of the connector port and swap the bracket. The originals are no longer available.

Re: Vaccum solenoid switch
There are 2 types of the solenoid valves, the early type takes a small square foam filter and the later design takes a cylinder type filter. Does anybody know what type of filter this 214-358 takes, looks like the early design.

Re: Vaccum solenoid switch
Maybe four Solenoid Valves?
Vacuum Solenoid for early (90' under Plenum). Vacuum Solenoid (filter) for Later (95' under Plenum)................Solenoid for Charcoal Canister (91'-95' under Plenum). https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...9407ac2631.jpghttps://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...7ebb645f89.jpg Solenoid located on Charcoal Canister (not shown) under Drivers Headlight (90'). |
Re: Vaccum solenoid switch
214-358 has the square thin filter. The spring steel filter cover snaps on to either the early or late LT5 bracket. Easy peasy. I am doing a 93 MY right now. Test your replacement solenoid before install. I had a bad one that the plastic was malformed inside the nipples.

Re: Vaccum solenoid switch
Thanks guys!!

Re: Vaccum solenoid switch
The filter for the switch is $13.00. This is for a piece of foam that is maybe 1/8 in thick and is 5/8 by 3/4 of an inch. When I went to the dealer to buy the cylinder shaped filter the parts guy ordered this one instead. I thought it was so absurd to charge $13.00 for such a small piece of foam I paid for it and kept it,shows how smart I am.

Re: Vaccum solenoid switch
Just wondering......the OEM part has 3 vacuum ports and the replacement has 3 ports.....how do you make it work?

Re: Vaccum solenoid switch
So there is a filter that goes on the 3rd port. That means there are only 2 vacuum ports or hoses that are used.

Re: Vaccum solenoid switch
Either will work. Later ones has a round filter earlier ones a flat filter. Put a new one in while you have the plenum off.
ACDelco 214-358 GM Original Equipment EGR Vacuum Regulator Solenoid Valve $18.36 Prime FREE Delivery Order it from Amazon. Originals no longer available. Same valve. Different mount. You can swap out the mounts or cut each off and bolt together. I have done it both ways. |
Re: Vaccum solenoid switch
Do you know the early (90) part # , I know it is discontinued.

Re: Vaccum solenoid switch
I installed one 3 years ago for myself and another 6 months ago for another car. Maybe I got lucky?

Re: Vaccum solenoid switch
I ended up buying a used one that passed vacuum test

Did you vacuum test the valve prior to installation? The ones I tested weren't a total bust but they weren't serviceable in my opinion. |
Re: Vaccum solenoid switch
After ordering a new one last fall and it didn’t work and wouldn’t seal or hold vacuum I went into the shop and started digging..... I ended up using a factory boost solenoid from a 300zx twin turbo car..... held 25 inches of vacuum for almost an hours so is more than adequate..... gv126-14 ..... also used on many other factory Nissan turbo cars during the 90’s ..... only problem is that it doesn’t have a bleed or filter over it so I put a vacuum t just below the map sensor under the ecu and actually used the bleed from the new one I had just bought new ..... took it apart took out the piston tube with the bleed and forced it into a short piece of silicone vacuum tube and went for my first beast mode pass since it wasn’t working when I bought the car..... without the bleed car felt like fuel cut in a Mitsubishi turbo car..... I know not a ac delco part not as designed or an ncrs part but works better than factory and in 4th gear under full throttle does it really matter 😎...... I’m sure a Mac valve that everyone uses for boost controllers would work as well..... hope this helps

Re: Vaccum solenoid switch
I had a new version GM solenoid on my shelf I was going to install on my 90, after reading this thread, I did a vacuum test, it failed new out of the box. It has the cardboard looking gasket behind the filter.... Jerry, do you have a new GOOD old version of the solenoid for a 90? The stock one still holds vacuum, I could re-install it if needed. THX
