Power steering issue
This is giving me fits...
Replaced the high pressure and supply (reservoir to pump) hoses due to fluid leaks. Bled the system per the manual twice now. For the life of me I can’t get the air out of the system. If anything it seams to be sucking in more air. I removed and double checked the new supply hose and changed out the clamps to wider ones. If figure if it’s pulling air it gas to be from the supply side. The high pressure side is tight with no fluid leaks. I can’t imagine it can pull air from the high pressure side, or am I wrong? Anyone ever see anything like this? H  |
Re: Power steering issue
New development, it’s actually pushing fluid out the supply (suction) side at the pump inlet. ???

Re: Power steering issue
Found an old post on corvette forum that exactly describes my situation. The original leak and the current leak both looked like fluid coming from the supply line at the pump. I didn’t realize the pump can leak from the back. Especially once the engine is shut down. This is also a source if air being pulled in. Looks like I’ll be replacing the pump. Not my favorite job on these cars.

Re: Power steering issue
I was at a local dealer....guy brought in an SL600 sold it to them outright....the seller took a 10K hit because he got so frustrated with it.....I just repaired the 2ndry air pump yesterday...it was actually a free fix...alittle cleaning

Re: Power steering issue
That’s why all those cars take such a big depreciation hit. Repairs outside of warranty are killer and long term reliability is questionable. Funny enough dealers can’t figure out why customer pay business is so poor. Lol.

Re: Power steering issue
But where else can you get a 600+hp car with 700ftlb for 20K.....you hate it, fix drive, love it, and then the cycle repeats itself....the engine itself is bullet proof....
