The coolant pipe tabs are prototype, not sure what vintage, but pre-89.

Thanks for the comments, I will certainly post more pics as I go.
The date stamp on my block and crank case is April '89. My engine number stamping seems a little odd but I have established it is a very late preproduction prototype and is pretty much 89/90 spec with a few minor differences like mounting tabs on pipes etc. I have plenty of other good bits to go on this time such as Fidanza flywheel, new leads, coils and injectors, ATI balancer - all the normal ZR1 stuff. I will have a few more progress pics this weekend, I have done about another 5 or 6 hours this week.
I am going to weld up the holes in the plenum where the coolant lines to the throttle body join up rather than tapping them and plugging them. This means I can grind out all the internal casting for the cooland inside the plenum just inside where the throttle body bolts to. Has anyone done this and was there any advantage? It does seem to close up the intake at least a little. Also - what is the best shape to make the transition from the front face of the plenum where it opens out into the main plenum chamber? There is about 6mm of alloy thickness that could be used to taper or bellmouth slightly into the plenum. Anyone got any experience with this? Matt |

G'day Again guys,
Got a few more pics - this stage takes ages so I will just keep chipping away an hour after work each day. Here is the injector housings in progress. one is about half done in 80 grit - the other is almost ready to start with the 80 grit. |

Back to my question from last week, what do others do with the shape of the plenum where I have drawn the red arrows below? Is it best to leave these circular from the front face right through to where it opens out into inside the plenum, or is it better to taper it out or bellmouth the opening??
Also, what about the casting for throttle body coolant and EGR bolt (in red circle and 2 red ellipses in the other picture). Is it worth removing these? It looks to me like they would be causing a restriction to the front cylinder - especially on one side. Any feedback would be helpful. Matt |
