"Mules" are GM internal test vehicles that were made to figure out how to shoe horn in the LT5 and also new technologies like Active Suspension. GM never intended that these cars be available to the public, but somehow a few escaped the crusher. At least 3 pre-production Mules were found in a Lotus junkyard in England a few years ago, albiet crushed, but not beyond repair.
