Default B & M Ripper Shifter

I am ready to remove the transmission and out of all things I cannot get this dang shift knob off.. It looks like a stock one however is soft (if that makes any sense). I'm not even 100% sure it is a B & M but this is just what I was told. I removed the plastic tab with the gate pattern in it but is in not like a stock shifter under there also it will not unscrew so I am at a loss. I messed with it for about 30 minutes last night then just moved to something else LOL

Any ideas???

Thanks,
Daniel

It appears this is something completely different so kind of wasted energy here..... not a ZF S6-40 or at least not the same shifter.
But difficult removing ZF S6-40 shifter knob also so maybe helpful

I think there is a wedge that you grab on to with vice grips and tap upward with small hammer on vice grips to yank that wedge out.

This from ZFdoc Proceedures R&R of the Shifter Knob

NOTE - If the shifter knob is being removed for the first time, it may require a great deal of effort to pluck the locking wedge out of position. The following procedure will allow you to get into the correct position to generate enough pull force required to get the job done.

1) Remove the roof panel (you will need to stand up in the car get enough leverage to pluck the wedge from the shifter knob). It will be necessary for you to straddle the door sills in order to get your body in the correct position for max lift/pull leverage.
2) Remove the shift pattern cap with a small leverage/prying devise. With a small set of Vise-Grip pliers, lock onto the sides of the wedge that is just under the shift pattern cover of the knob.
3) with a long screw driver slid through the pliers jaws, use both hands and pull up with as much force as you can generate.
4) Once the wedge has been removed, unscrew the knob to access the reverse pull-up lock-out mechanism (if equipped). The reverse pull-up knob is held in place with a very small allen-head set screw

You may have to tow the ZR1

Yep, there is a wedge type piece that slides down into the "rear??" part of the inside of the shifter knob. It will have a rectangular head on it.

Thanks guys looks like what I have. When the gate is removed there is a silver-ish rectangular part to the rear of the knob. I just didn't apply enough force...

Cliff, I have heard of the 4 step method before but the guy that tried left out step 2. It was an entertaining story LOL

I think I used vise grips to pull it out.

I love your sig, GC. "LED's everywhere". I need to do a debris screen before the BG trip. It makes me nervous without one. Does anyone sell one or is homemade the way to go?
