THREAD ASKS WRONG QUESTION! Should be 'What car would you trade for a ZR-1?' I sold my '08 Viper so i could buy a 2011 silverado 3/4 ton, a gatormade trailer and my '91 ZR-1 (to street/track). Totally satisfied... Last edited by TCurtner; 04-29-2013 at 08:11 AM. |

Kind of surprised at all the mentions of those old "W" head motors from the early sixties. What is it with the ZR-1'ers? do we have the hots for "outmoded" performance motors.
![]() My long time dream is to have my old gasser back. A 53' Bel Air 2 door hardtop, with a complete 62' 409/409 super stock drivetrain, from a wrecked Biscayne. But trade the ZR-1?.....NAaaah, fugetaboutit. They're going to bury me in that sucker. ![]() |

So what is it with Vipers anyways? Everybody really wants one until they have one it seems... and a 600hp one at that! Was it just tying up too much cash that you wanted out?

"I can remember after we had run one of those 396 engines enough to know it put out about 100 more horsepower than any 348 or 409 we ever had on the dynamometer." Maurice "Rosey" Rosenberger The 1963 427 cubic in "W" engine RPO Z11 with 2 x 4bbl induction was rated at 430hp was the hottest "W" engine, and was installed in a car with a curb weight on3,345lbs when compared to a "standard" 2 door Impala with teh 340hp 409 "W" engine weighed a portly 3,877lbs. That aluminum front end must of done its job weightwise. There were 57 Z11 cars built according to Paul Prior of Product Promotion said in 1977. $1,237.40 got you the Z-11 option with the 430hp, 427 cube "W" engine ,Aluminum bumpers (front and rear), alum front end, alum. hood + underhood panels+alum. front inner and outer fenders, 4 speed syncromesh trans, 4.10:1 Positrac rear, metallic brake linings, HD shocks and springs, tach, . It also had a new cowl air induction air cleaner. The 427 had 12.5:1 compression with high port cylinder heads and matching intake manifold. Though rated at 430hp, dyno report were supposedly closer to 500hp. The Z-11 was the first Chevrolet drag car to have its own RPO. peace Hog |

300rwhp, 12.8 1/4 mile times 106 cars built, 100 for American. 6 Canadian, 2 Prototypes. For emissions the original LT1 calibration is retained, so getting a proper LT4 calibration flashed into the PCM really wakes these cars up. Proper tuning and LT4 knock module addition will add 30rwhp and 11 rwtq on a stone stock LT4 SS. Raisning the rev limiter up to the proper 6412rpm LT4 level from teh standard LT1 5886 rev limiter helps as well. All of these LT4's were disassembled, balanced and blue printed and used speciifc Extrude honed exhaust manifolds in order to reach the 330 engine hp while using the stock LT1 calibration. Every 5th engine was dyno tested, and every car was chassis dyno tested. There were also 33 LT4 Firehawks made. I remember back in 2008 when LT4 SS #1 was being offerd for sale with 4,300 miles on it for $75,000. Nice cars. peace Hog |

I really like my Z; I have a thing for unique/special cars, or ones with a story behind them. There are not many cars that I would trade the Z for. Nobody said anything BUT if I traded could I then sell the traded car for cash get my Z back and then get another C4? That is if I traded up… HA! That being said I would trade for only 2 cars:
1) Ferrari F40 a street version would be “ok” but would prefer a LM. 2) The 1995 DRM Le Mans ZR-1 Those are pretty much it; I have a few other C4’s on the “Maybe” list. Anyone that knows me knows I am a C4 guy I didn’t buy a Z because it was the “King of the Hill” I didn’t buy the Z as an investment. I got this particular Z because I liked everything that it was, not to mention at the time I was looking for either a SNAT, B2K, or ZR-1. I have had offers to sell and it’s just not going to happen! Sad thing is the 89 L98 car we have is the most un-special car, has the most miles, and is probably in the worst shape out of all of them. I absolutely LOVE that car, I have put WAY too much money, time, and resources into that car but I really don’t ever see myself letting it go. The Z would go before it would and I wouldn’t trade the 89 for anything… I must have a real problem LOL Daniel |
