I liked this, simply because this guy found another way to do something cool and had the talent & conviction to do it.

Cool. I'd love to have an electric car.

Phenomenal work! Drove a Tesla S not long ago. Acceleration and torque were incredible and it weighs nearly 3 tons.

So Dominic, the whole money thing aside, would you buy a Tesla with it's limited range, or a Volt with gas backup on board and far less electric range? I mean to compare the two theories, more than the cars.

Steve, Wow, the Tesla is gorgeous and technologically impressive. From a practical point of view I would take the Volt. It is equally impressive IMO because GM turned the whole batt/IC thing around. Until there is an infrastructure to support the all-electric. The Cadillac ELR is less expensive than the Tesla and utilizes the range extending technology of the Volt. So more luxury but similar capabilities. Maybe solar panels charging on the roof. I went by a Chevy dealer this summer and he had a parking/charging area just for Volts. It had a canopy of solar cells and the Volts were being charged via those panels. Very cool. |

With straight electric, they need to figure out how to charge them much faster. Or better batteries. I hear lithium air is the next big thing in batteries. 10 times better than lithium ion.
From what I hear, panels on the roof wouldn't amount to squat, but I think it would make people feel better. |

Steve,
I think the auto industry has made a critical turn regarding electric. Before now, the field has depended on "pioneers". I applaud Toyota for how they have stuck w the Prius as an example. And credit GM for the Volt. Imagine had they stuck w the EV-1. I expect that the technology to follow Moore's Law. Software is becoming increasingly important in the overall performance of a vehicle. |
