Well I got to take some rounds at the new NCM Motorsports park in the C7 and I came away VERY impressed with it as a package. These were loaded stock C7's and they are simply brilliant on the track. Not the hardest hitting engine but the combination of handling and braking are possibly the best I have seen in a stock vehicle and even rivaled some race cars I have had the fortune to ride in. I cannot even imagine what the new
ZO6 will be like. I truly was not expecting anywhere near that level of control and refinement. I am sure I could match the power from my Z at considerable expense but I doubt I could ever duplicate that handling/braking at any price. As a point of reference I have lapped in Ferrari F430's, 458's, and a California. In Lambo's I have lapped in the Gallardo. I have also lapped in Johnny O'Connell's series winning Cadillac CTS-V. Of course I have lapped my own 90 ZR-1 and my MX-5 built to spec race but never raced and sold recently. With this said the C7 felt the most planted and confidence inspiring of all of these save the full race CTS-V. So now how to afford a ZO6 on active duty military pay? |

the downside of the lt5 is how expensive it is to modify and make serious horsepower. to me serious horsepower is anything over 500 rwhp. You can get any ls1 or ls corvette, dump in a supercharger, make a cam change and see over 500 rwhp easily. thats what i did to my c5 and after 8 grand I was in the big leagues.
Unless you have deep pockets 500 rwhp in a lt5 will not be feasible. I dont want to be the fastest because I know that its all about money at this point. I enjoy the technical marvel of the lt5, the sound and the history. I feel like I am driving a special car and that feeling is well worth the money of a zr1 lt5. also it never fails, every time I take the car out to a muffler shop, a friends house, a gathering.. people take out there cameras and start snapping pictures. that never happened with my c5 as beautiful as it was it was just a dime a dozen c5. I will leave the high horsepower racing to the guys with 415 and 441 cars pushing 650 hp etc... |

yea, the LSV 390 build cost 36k and puts down 508
but now you can go out an BUY a stroker car for way less than that DONE still won't keep up with a lightly modded c7 even though the weight is similar. technology marches on guys. I still like the way the old ZR-1 looks a bit better, but the Z06 is going to be an animal. try getting the ZR-1 to 650 ft lbs, gonna take turbos to do it!! the c7 chassis is pretty sweet too. just wish they would get rid of some of the weight from all the new gizmos those control units and wiring are all big boxes bolted onto the chassis when you heft some of that stuff it's amazing how much weight could be saved with a "stripper" love to build something on a bare c7 chassis and put a kick @$$ body on it I've seen some old retro transmagorified c3 designs that really looked hot! aero might suck, but they are gourgeous I like the new c7 Z06 wide body ok, the base C7 body, not so much just loosing the "retainer" helps a bunch as does dressing up that flabby butt corvette has struggled with an attractive rear end design since the Z IMHO yet to get it quite right |

If I had an unlimited budget, how about a Lingenfelter wide body zr1 lt5 nelson racing engine 500 cube LT5 twin turbo at 1200 hp. with money anything is possible. this car would idle down like grandma grocery getter but blister the quarter mile in 9 seconds with top end over 210 mph. If I only had the money........

what negativity big john. you dont think there is a fix for that??? just more money. plus, turbo power comes on smooth and tends to break less parts. Just make the half shafts out of a different material or maybe a heat treated material for added strength.. this would not be the first car putting down those kinds of numbers...

Yep! very smooth!!!!
Cast steel half shafts; like on the Sledgehammer? I know I tend to blow thing up with much less power! ![]() Last edited by BigJohn; 09-05-2014 at 02:51 PM. |
