just codes? then anything OBD1 should be fine.. If you are an Android user, then I suggest a simple cable and ALDLDroid..

I would suggest an Autoxray reader/scanner because you can use it on other cars.
However if you find one, a Tech 1A can perform a multitude of tests that a regular reader scanner cant. Also GM used a Tech 1A back in the day GC
