from the action center...I spoke with Jim Ingle recently who was a Corvette Powertrain Engineer and did a lot of the develoment testing on the ZR-1s. Most of the GM performance figures you see for the various years on the ZR-1 were established by him. I asked him about the use of steel half shafts and why the switch to aluminum. This is what he had to say:

"We had difficulties staying in the EPA weight class we needed to be in to avoid paying gas guzzler tax. Of course, this was prompted by crash and bumper standards that resulted in weight increases. The aluminum axles were part of the weight reductions used." -- Jim Ingle

The half-shaft was changed early in the 1990 model year starting with VIN # 800621.

This weekend, I'll be an *** Man, just like Cosmo Cramer.

I'm putting my rear end up and doing a combo detail, lube suspension, brakes and general crawl around. I do have that frequent "click/snap" comking from the rear that I thought I licked. While the tires are off I'll take the spindle nut off and re torque to +10 and see if that makes a difference.

I didn't have any stickers on my shafts but a assembly worker had fun with my 90 #946 they drew with a permanent marker on the shafts ZR-1 with a smiley face ....They drew another one with a white china marker in the spare tire carrier..

Don't know what your "click-snap' is, and this may not be the same, but I had a noise/clunk in the rear of my '95 that was heard whenever I hit a bump or backed out of my inclined driveway. Marc H. changed the sway bar bushings and it went away. The sway bar bushings looked and felt OK to him but we did it anyway and it worked. --Bob

Got my new fuel pumps together along with Carter's Y-Adapter. The zip ties in case you wonder, are to prevent wire chaffing.

My coilovers have settled a bit with time. I decided to raise the rear slightly (0.175” at spring retainer). Biggest thing it accomplished was my daughters wanted to go for a ride. We managed to take rides in a 415, pictured car that I raised with a cammed 350 & 4.30 gears, a ported engine HPDE car, and a totally stock car.

This Virus pandemic is scary. It has caused me to slow down a little on the weekends and enjoy us. We are usually running 90 to nothing entertaining everyone. Yesterday was near perfect as I got to enjoy the cars with my daughters. I’ve been debating on diversifying my hobby but every time I spend time with these ZR-1s I fall for them all over again. Folks make fun of me for having the same thing but everyone is different.

Hope everyone is staying safe.

Ted

Mine was making same noise and is gone as of about 6pm today.... new rear sway bar bushings and endlink bushings
Washed 90 lbs of dirt and sand from the tire carrier and found what looked like bean sprouts growing that or some huge grass seeds
While soaked went ahead and pressure washed everything back there and wet sanded the borla’s and pipes from resonator back..., inside of rear wheels etc etc.... maybe by august if I work on it every day I’ll get all the bushings changed to poly.....
Wish I had a flat driveway so wanting to lower the car ....
Did a few test hits and at a 3800 hit in first dead hooks and only barks second and barks 3rd.... maybe locked down but can always go for a drive

Tomorrow is the attack on the front sway bars if my back gives me permission

Saw 2 other c7’s doing same as me....just tooling around loving the car

Called up Mr Lingenfelter’s guys about fuel pumps but was told walbro has been incognito for a few weeks so called in favors and ended up with two 255 walbro’s so put them in yesterday

No leaks no smells and car seems to run a bit better.....
Car has one of Marc’s chips, new k&n and old school borla cat back systems
filmed by 160 lb camera guy I picked up on the Mexico border and a fresh full tank of 93..... know it’s slow but makes me happy
