Default Has anyone found a good radiator debris screen?

I see various versions of the screen that is made for the front air dam area to prevent trash and debris from going behind the radiator. Is there any good ones out there that someone has found that actually covers the open area well or is making a custom one the best option? I went to Home Depot and did not find a satisfactory material to use and was initially going to make one. I don't mind spending for a good one. I see that some of the ones they sell don't look all that great or don't cover the open area as I would, or the quality looks cheap so just looking for some opinions and options from experience.

Thanks,

Craig

There is a fair amount of discussion on this on the "other forum" which might be helpful.

Thanks, I looked in the C4 section and found some info and will check again as this pertains to all C4s and more there but still not what I was looking for.

Keith will say that I want to polish it with a diaper. If I use a metal one I will probably PC it black.

Okay, if I don't find any good, professionally made shield/screen I will design my own custom one and post. Completing my euro taillight conversion, tinting my windows today. I am also going to build a custom lexan cold air box for my claw.

Carter,

Yes, while I'm waiting I get too many ideas. As for the claw enclosure, my theory with the upper radiator support cut out I need to enclose it so the air will direct to the intake but more importantly through the radiator for max cooling. It appears that alot of the cool air will go up and over into the engine. This will be a challenge. I spent some time with the CLAW mocked up with hood closed and worked from under to see what clearance I have and there is a lot. More to follow.............

Keith,

Thanks, I ordered a few items from that guy and he has good stuff so thanks for reminding me. I got the vent gills and door handle covers from him years ago; shipping is a killer from Canada though. I asked for some close up photos to see the quality and install coverage but he has one of the better ones.

David,

Yes, I am making my own harness and now I see how easy it is after taking it apart and studying the FSM as well as post from IOWAZR-1 (John) and he has been sharing additional info with me.

http://www.zr1.net/forum/showthread.php?t=5168

I am doing mine a little differently and not all the details of what is needed is posted, but I did find the brake light wire (light blue) from the harness inside the back behind the rear shelf by the glass hatch latch (courtesy of Gordon Killebrew). I can go into more detail once I'm done the only thing I'm waiting on to complete is the 3M 314 connectors that I decided to use. I was going to do solderiing and all but with limited work space in there the 3M 314 connector that IOWAZR-1 used is the same as the kits with Eckler's and Mid America had with moisture seal, etc. I was on the fence with getting LED bulbs but probably have to change the flasher if so and not sure how LED bulbs will look in the euro lamp housing design so I will test first. More to follow....................

Ted,

Thanks, I did see that one and the only thing is I don't like the screen design and I'm looking for something that looks more high end if I can describe it like that. By the way, I got my claw today and thanks again for sharing your info and experience.

Aloha to all,

Craig
