In a C4 w/the zf 6 spd they used a D44, Dana 44 series, all the ZR-1's came with the D44.

Is that what you are asking? I don't remember the ring gear size, maybe 8" vs the older C4 rear D36 at 7" ring gear....I think I'm right on those stats.

All ZR-1s came with the Dana Super 44 rearend and the Dana Spicer Trac Loc limited slip differential PN 74229X and 3.45 ratio gear sets. Some early European delivey Zs had 3.54 ratio gears. Standard OEM ring gears measure around 8 3/4" diameter. Mopar Viper ring gears (manufactured by Dana Spicer) measure almost 9.0".

Was actually wondering about the trac loc. Is there a locking diff that will fit the case? Also, I was looking at Jagdpanzer's last link to the trac loc. It mentions the highest numerical gear for that diff is 3.73:1. What needs to be changed for a 4.11:1 or something higher? Im thinking of doing the viper gearset but dont know $hit about it. Any problems with the size of that viper gearset? Anything else I should know?

Mopar Viper 4.10 gears will fit without any problems.

I would do some serious research first. I heard from a very reliable source that the 4:10 viper gears are now manufactured in China. If so I would question the quality.

Thumbs down Re: Diff ?

I was looking at either Mopar or Superior Axle for the gear set. What is the brand most people use for the swap? Any differences noted?

I put a Mopar set in my 90 & also in a buddy's 95 at the same time around May/June. They are quiet as a lamb...I must say. When I checked stock, was only....6 sets in the MI. warehouse at that time . Something could have changed since then for sure. Was just going to do my diff., but when I told my buddy what was availible, at the time was the Mopar/Chysler crisis going on, he didn't want to take a chance & had me order a set for him too. They are thick on the Ring gear, for sure.
