Default Interesting history to 1991 #1359

A few years back I bought 1991 ZR-1 #1359 from someone who had taken the engine apart in order to replace some cams and never finished the project. I got it for really cheap, and put my own cams in it... the car has a 368 and paint wasnt perfect. I sold off some other cars with the intent of enjoying #1359 this summer.

Last weekend I pulled a build sheet copy and noticed it had not been sold but in fact it had been retained by GM or the CPC group. I then ran a carfax and it showed this 1991 was not sold until july of 1992 and had 5K miles. I sent a note to the person I bought it from and asked him if he had any info. He had a PM from someone as a guest on this forum with just a screen name.

I took that screen name and did some research and located a person I thought was the owner and found an email. Bingo I found the first public owner.... here is the awesome part:

*the car was obtained from GM through a family connection with a roll cage in the car and engine work(I will confirm some details this weekend, just emails exchanged right now so might be losing some info in the exchange) It sounds like Savage racing did some of the engine work .. but I will get the details for clarity
*The car was then run in One Lap of America Driven by RK Smith finishing 5th.

*Mods for the car included: fire suppression system, blueprint zf trans, coilovers specially tuned, expanded fuel tank, brembo brakes, 4.09 rear gears and a "monster engine build" ... per the owner the suspension and cage were from GM.... more clarity and details to come after I am able to talk to the owner.

Thought I would share, and I hope to find out more about the history of the cars use at GM

RK Smith was a NASCAR Cup driver in the 90s. He was considered one of the
"Road Course Ringers" with his extensive road racing background.
Nowadays, the the everyday guys have figured out how to turn right and
Ringers aren't used anymore....

So has the intent of enjoying it changed now?

Well, it should not if I may say so.

Wail the tar out of it, after all, that is what it is used to!

Now you should have even MORE FUN with it!!!

Still a great story!!!

No. it does explain why it?s not a perfect car(17900 miles ). 4200 miles and 15 or so races in 7days is a lot. I will drive it and try to get more info on its setup. If time allows I might even see if I can do the one lap in it.
