Sorry for not answering sooner, been on travel...
Used ~40 sqft of Dynamat for floor and hatch area. Used another ~9 sqft in the doors. Hatch area: ![]() Passenger seat area with Dynamat over top of the tunnel. ![]() Drivers seat area with Dynamat fitted up to the edge of the shifter boot. ![]() |

Ryan, it is sound deadening only. I checked into some of the heat barrier stuff (Hawaii - Craig) bought a kit and said it wasn't worth it. That was what the other responses were as well. I would like to reduce some heat in the trans tunnel as well. Those headers put off a lot of radiant heat when beating on the car. I did a lot more deadening than HIZNHRZ. I used maybe 75 sqft total. |

The material used was designed for sound deadening. The Dynamat used is foil faced. While I planned on sound reduction, I was also relying on the foil barrier to reduce radiant heat intrusion into the passenger compartment through the trans tunnel by reflecting the radiant heat energy. For sound deadening, you don't have to worry about the size of seams in the material. For reflecting radiant heat, it doesn't hurt to minimize them. On the trans tunnel, there are no open seams.
I did not conduct a science fair but I know the dynamat is doing a fine job. How do I know? The trans tunnel is no longer gets uncomfortably warm. Last edited by HIZNHRZ; 12-06-2009 at 11:34 AM. |

http://forums.*************.com/c4-p...tion-kits.html (you'll have to add the corvette________from the other site as you know since the link won't work)
Here is what I installed as mentioned by Jeff. It was not bad (for the price....get what you pay for type), but did not fit and required a lot of trimming and adding to get the complete coverage. In addition, the material was a very cheap, thin foam with foil on one side and if I had to do it again or recommend it I would not. I wish I had my Z running long enough after the mod to give you a good assessment of the product, but it did help some on noise and seemed to with heat as well for the time I used it. Have said that, with my motor and trans out now I have been wanting to do more under the body to cosmetically as well as address more sound deadening and heat if I can while I have full access. I might have made the mistake of trying to use some rubberized undercoating in the trans tunnel area and part of the firewall. My concern was keeping away from the heat of the headers and exhaust in those areas being worried about flammability of the product. There are many products out there similar to this: http://www.thermotec.com/kevlar-heat-barrier.html Many manufacturers and materials available to try to further insulate from the outside in the tunnel area and from the outside under the body. In a metal body I would hestitate, but wondering now about putting such a product being held up by their high temp spray adhesive in conjuction with some other type of fasteners or aluminum framing on the edges and center other areas for insurance. To me it seems our interior gets quite warm and I have enough sunshine creating heat from the weather alone so looking to block out as much of the heat generated by the engine and exhaust into the cabin as possible as to not work the A/C so hard too. Another reason why I have tolerated the delamination on my windshied and wanted to replace it with a standard C4 one, but needed all the help I could get here in Hawaii to keep cool....especially during the summer months. Anyway enough of my ![]() Last edited by HAWAIIZR-1; 12-06-2009 at 02:32 PM. |

O.K., Thanks guys. Only thing I'm used to doing is wrapping the headers & such, not actually doing anything to the car itself. I'll see what I can come up with.
